HVK Monsoon Drive- Aug’17 Blore to Agumbe

Agumbe is a rain forest in the central Western Ghats of southern India. A cobra breeding forest, it is also called the  “The Cherrapunji of the South” . The drive was a part of HVK Monsoon drive – a approx 450 km drive from Bangalore.

Some photography and snaps of 2 days drive in the forest…

Mahim, Kelva Beach near Mumbai – one day trip

DSC_0109 (2)
Green, clean, fresh roadways
Mahim Beach, peaceful and quiet

A 120 km drive away from Mumbai, Mahim is a nice secluded beach, unlike its near cousin, Kelva beach, which is much populated. A 3 hrs drive from Mumbai, Mahim could be a small one day trip away from the hustle & bustle of the big city. Towards Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway, one needs to take a left from Varai-Safale road to reach these beaches.

There are some resorts @Kelva but most of them are fully occupied by private parties and they might even not allow outsiders, even for food.

Shantashil resort is the place for food and drinks @palghar. This is on the way to Mahim  beach from Kelva and probably the only best place to dine.

DSC_0112The small town of the beach is beautiful and apt for photographers. Mahim beach is a fisherman’s beach and one could find many small boats in the water.

1800 x 2 Km Drive – Bengaluru to Jamshedpur and Return – a 2 day trip !

2017, is suppose to be a year that i would be travelling more, more than what i have been doing all these years. The best part, 2016 ended with a long drive, 1800 km, B’lore to Jamshedpur with the Rahul and Dipika and their cute dog, Oreo. And even better, 2017 begun with 1800 km drive back from Jamshedpur to Bangalore .What better could i have asked for.

We started the journey from Bangalore on 24th Dec, 2016 early morning at 5 am.

On the Karnataka highway towards kolar-nellore early morning

The 1st part of the trip is the 1008 km drive from Bangalore to Vishakapatnam via Nellore . Rest is must for any long drive, and more over when you really wanna enjoy the drive. Keeping body and mind fresh is a must.

The highway is good in Karnataka and Andhra, and the drive is smooth. We had amazing Andhra food on the highway and loved every ounce of it both at lunch and dinner.

Early morning – just out of Bangalore
We 3 men !!

Due to some long halts we got late in reaching Vishakapatnam. Both me and Rahul got sleepy at night.

It was just half an hour more to reach our night halt and Rahul tried to keep away the sleep by asking some silly, stupid questions. One i remember was – “Mumbai mein bai aati hai kya kapde dhone” 😀 …Damn that really got us into a bit of better mode to keep going for next few minutes. Ideally we should have reached Vishakapatnam by 10 pm. We reached by 12:30 pm. All tired we went inside, made our beds and went off to a nice sleep.

2nd part(800 km) : Vishkapatnam – Srikakulam – Ichchapuram – Chatrapur – Khurda – Bhubaneswar – Cuttak -Anandapur – Badbil – Jamshedpur

As we wanted to have a good sleep, we did not rush on 26th morning and left Vishakapatnam by 10 am after some idli sambhar. Our next target was lunch at Chilika Dhaba, near Chilika Lake in Odisha. I had no idea about this dhaba until Rahul told me about it. And i also came to know that this was one of the must visit dhaba in India and that too in the top 5 list. This dhaba is ranked 2 in India by the tv show – Highway on my plate.

So all excited we reached Chilika Dhaba by 3pm and had some awesome chicken and prawns. The place is all jam packed  and the food amazing. Esp the sea food.

Highway near Chilika Lake

After good food we left towards our home, Jamshedpur. The road in Jharkhand was pretty bad as most part was either under construction or were very uneven. The humps, bumps and jerks made us realize that we have entered Jharkhand . Also advisable that the route is not safe at late night and should be avoided as far as possible. We too got too late due to the bad road condition and reached Jamshedpur at 12 : 45 pm at night.

The scenic beauty all along was beautiful and the most beautiful part for the trip is Andhra Pradesh, esp Rajahmundry that has amazingly beautiful nurseries along the highway. This part was covered on our return trip as while coming it was dark and we couldn’t really see the green all along AP. Overall, the farms, the trees, the road, the food (esp at Odisha and AP ), scenery and the diversity of culture that we saw along the highway and places that we halted left us with beautiful memories and amazing feeling. Shared below the photos while returning.

Bengaluru to Varkala via Kanyakumari

Another beautiful road trip to pen down. This time its from Bangalore to Varkala via Kanyakumari .

Varkala beach (Arabian Sea) – serene , clean and beautiful. This is adjacent o Varkala Cliff
Out of Bangalore towards Salem

Trip 1– 660 km : Bangalore to Kanyakuamri – The 1st part we drove from Bangalore to Kanyakumari. We left Bangalore early morning 5 am. This time it was 5 of us- 2 of my couple friends and me . We took the highway to Salem from Bangalore.

As usual the drive on karnatak highway is awesome. The highway roads of karnataka are well maintained and you will always love to drive on them. After a long drive and few small halts for snacks we reached Madurai. Rahul had been to this place earlier and suggested we have lunch at Bell Jumbo Restaurant.

The setup was huge and we could see some special biryani counter. Its a place famous for biryani .We ordered a biryani, chicken gravy and roti. The biryani was just OK, nothing special that we felt about it.Rather the chicken was better. After our lunch we started towards Kanyakumari. On the way came a stretch where all around us we started seeing huge wind vanes. This was one of India’s largest wind farm. The size of these wind mills were spectacularly huge. This wind farm has around 10000 wind mills spread over 20 km length of NH 7/AH 43 near Kanyakumari. Driving and photo shoot on this stretch was fun.

We reached Kanyakumari by evening. As planned and not having much to see there we spent a while near the beach.

The scenic beauty was really good, we even got a thought of seeing the sunset , but time did not permit us as we had to reach Varkala before it was too late. Without much delay and after some oceanic site seeing we left from Kanyakumari towards Varkala.

Trip 2 – 132 Km Kanyakumari to Varkala . Though the distance was just 132 km, the drive was long due to the bypass roads and some busy towns that we had to cross. One interesting city that we crossed was Nagercoil. There are some places that i cross in such road trips which gets on my list of a come back, this was one of them – Nagercoil. The city had something nice in it which pulled my curiosity for later visit.

The road to Varkala all along was busy and we had to get along with lot of traffic. We reached there late night. Our booking was at Hill View Resort, on Varkala cliff, one of the finest stay with decent cost. We were all tired so after small talk we all slept off the night.

Hill View Resort, Varkala cliff

Next day was a beautiful morning with a silence and light hearing of the ocean waves. The resort was beautiful and the best part was that the shore was 2 mins walk. Every morning for next 2-3 days we enjoyed our lavish breakfast at Cafe Del Mar and then headed straight to the beach, enjoyed the cold oceanic water. After the fun at beach we got fresh at our resort and had some awesome lunch at the near by restaurants(Cafe Del Mar, Abba are few of good resto to try) at the cliff.

@ Cafe Del Mar

Varkala restaurants and cafes serve delicious and fresh sea food. A must to have if u are sea food lover. There are options for beer (1-2 brands) at the restos/cafes as Kerala being a dry state you wont get much offerings for alcohols .Rather we only got beer and some cocktails, but that was more than enough for us. At night we went on shopping at small cozy shops on the cliff stretched for 1-2 kms.

walking down to meditate, and i see a partner already on the job 🙂

Varkala is a place where you could head for a very peaceful, serene and light trip. If relaxing, good food and fun with close friends(or a solo) is on your mind then guys this is the place to head. The beaches are less crowded and the best part, its clean unlike many beach holiday destinations in India. Last day i spend early hrs meditating at the lovely beach. The experience is splendid.

The drive back to bangalore was pretty fun and engaging . We guys spoke much about our dreams, life and much much more that was interesting to all of us. One more happy trip and lot of memories and beautiful stuff to write and share about.

Hope you guys enjoyed the write . There’s lot in line !!

Mumbai to Pune – Expressway

Ok today it has been different from all other times – driving to pune from mumbai on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

I have been travelling Pune – Mumbai and vise versa since years now. Mumbai-Pune expressway drive, one that has been recommended to all who love driving and travelling.

For ample reasons – one for the wide and long strecth of smooth road, second the secenic beauty along the high-way – the mountains, the greenery, the tunnels, the clouds and rain (esp when passing lonavala, khandala) and yes for the love of drive.

The drive is just too amazing during the monsoon. People who love driving should put this on their list .

So early morning started off from Mumbai – Saturday morning around 5:30 am. Cool weather, pleasant breeze and cloudy.

I got in my red Polo, put some good music on and accelerated towards Pune.

The music was loud and i enjoyed the drive out of Mumbai. As it was early morning and Saturday, was blessed with least traffic on the way.

Something was different today, i just felt it was not normal. Though i was happy and cheerful as i usually am when i m on such drives but there was something more to the drive.

As soon i touched the high-way, the music just went from a loud edm to a sudden calm meditative music. Somehow i didn’t feel like changing it, i just let it play. The sudden bang in my head and ears eased out. My drive became as calm as the music itself. From 140km/hr i slowed to 100km/hr, thats normal on the expressway.

As i drove ahead i started noticing everything around me more clearly. Suddenly the presence of everything that was moving along with me enhanced, as if everything could see me happily driving. I started smiling seeing this. It was strang and beautiful at the same time.
The trees that where dancing with the wind seemed whispering with each other. It seemed as if they spoke and giggled among themselves.

In my rear view mirror and side mirrors i saw the black cloud following me, like it was chasing to shower itself on me.

This had rarely happened with me. Though i did connect with the nature everytime i drove to such places and felt completely in love with it, this time it seemed as if the nature was in love with me.

It was one of the best time and moment for me. The feeling was overwhelming and to it added the light bright green bushes, tress and plantation on either side of me.

One side was the more calm green that rested and covered the large stones and on the other side was small lovely bushes that danced along the highway.

When i slowed down, i could feel some cars just zooming ahead of me, moving in the same direction…probably to the same destination. Some in Mercedes, some in BMW, some in same as mine and some in others, but all headed towards the same direction.

Something just struck me, felt what if Life is just a journey that we all are travelling here…on this Earth ?

What if we are just travelers to this beautiful planet ? What if we have just build and destroyed on our journey to somewhere else ?

Cars that zoomed in this journey seemed be missing so much of the journey itself. The beauty of the moment.

May be moving slow was the way to live here, enjoying what was already there for us. Relishing the creation, seeing, feeling, loving and being loved.

The road seemed just a medium to stay on the journey, all destinations seemed same at that particular moment.

Some rushed through it, some went calmly. Some where in lavish cars some in ordinary .The point was to be in a car, that was basic to be there. Like earning the basics of life (doesn’t stop from earning the best) and being happy, but still not wrong in wishing to drive the best, if you learn to be in the moment.

My thoughts, my mind and myself felt like floating in a different ocean. The music had added to my situation.

At an instance i realized a small pain, a hurt in my heart that i had been carrying for while now.

On the other hand i realized that these are emotions that we carry, and somewhere i was lucky to know how it feels to get hurt (some may say its insane)…but yes i genuinely felt lucky for all the emotions that i had dealt with till date – thats a part of being human. And more than that, i felt and i have learned to move, getting to know what emotions really are.  Its a natural reaction of our inner self to the outer world.
It only creates problem when we hold onto the emotions – good or bad and don’t let them pass.

After an hour finally the cloud managed to catch me and burst on me, just on me….and then everywhere as far as i could see.

Light shower of rainfall mesmerized my already trance state.

I felt one should definitely take such small solo trips alone – if they have too many questions from Life….or even if they don’t.

The magic was that as soon i was about to touch Pune, the music ended and got back to some normal edm track.

Whatever it was, i was amazed with the drive that day. I reached Pune with a carzy calmness within me.
